The Origins of Telephone and Its Evolution

The telephone is communication equipment to send a voice message. The telephone can operate by the electric signal in the telephone network, so users can communicate with others.

History of Telephone

In 1871, Antonio Meucci made his patent called “Sound Telegraph”. His finding is used to communicate in voice between 2 people by cable as a connector.

By time flies, in 1875, telecommunication company, “The Bell” got patent of Antonio Meucci finding called “Transmitters and Receivers for Electrical Telegraphs”. The system is using multiple steel vibrations to make respite on the circuit.

Next year, in 1876, The Bell make patent to “Improvement in Telegraphy”. The system gives a method to transmit voice by telegraph. In 1877, Alexander Graham Bell controlled company productivity continuously. “The Charles Williams Shop” where the telephone made for the first time to the end of the year until 300 unit of telephone used. “The Bell” company also made a patent for the electromagnetic telephone that using a permanent magnet, iron diaphragm, and call-ringing.

Next, in 1878, “The Bell” has 10.000 telephone connected through interchange channel and can be used.

In 1880, the first Metalic Circuit is installed. The circuit is the upgrade version of one wire circuit to two wires. This upgrade can decrease noise to one wire channel user. The first usage of the telephone with dial number is in 1891.

The automatic telephone will connect a caller to the operator by dial number. In 1915, the wireless system telephone is used for the first time. This system makes users easy to connect with each other in cross-country communication.

1. Bell’s Telephone (1876)

The first telephone is made by Alexander Graham Bell. This product is a laboratory trial. Transmission needle and sulfate acid can produce voice vibration to an electromagnetic wave receiver.

2. Gower Bell’s Telephone (1880)

This telephone is designed by Frederic Allan Gower which is a modification from Bell’s Liquid Transmitter. Gower Bell ever is a standard telephone in British Post Office for a few years.
